The food is awesome. The service is a little slow when calling in an order, but pretty quick when dining in (go figure). If you're looking for a simple slice of pizza, this is not the place, but for good artisan pizza, salads, calzones and sandwiches, it's one of my favorite spots in town. Park around back (off Guadalupe Street)

I had this on my list to try on the one day we visited the Plaza in Santa Fe. We were so hungry and really wanted a good meal. I didn't care for the ordering system. You walk in and place your order at the counter. We had to wait at least 10 minutes to even place our order. When it was our turn and the lady called us to the counter, she excused herself to pour some wine and other drinks. The other person taking order did take care of us before taking another customer but I thought it was rude of the lady. So we place our order for 3 different 10" pizzas, the only size they serve. We found a table and sat. We had to wait another 10 minutes before we received our drinks. The best part of the meal was the pizza. It is a great thin crust and the toppings are delicious. Not over done like pizza chains but not too little. My family was able to devour 3 pizzas and we could have taken on a 4th. All in all a good meal for a great price. The service and atmosphere could have been better but the pizza definitely made up for it.

I'm a regular at Il Vicino - I love their salads and outdoor patio seating during the summer. Sometimes that parking lot can be crowded because it's shared among 3 other places, but it's usually not bad. Great place to take a large group or family and since you pay before you sit down, there's no hassle to figure out how the check is going to be divided. The menu mostly offers a wide variety of pizzas, salads and sandwiches. I personally don't think their pizza is outstanding, but for the price it's a great choice.

Nice easy going place with good service and good food for the price. You'll eat like a king for 20 bucks. What more can you ask for?

For a nice thin crust pizza with fresh ingredients without spending a lot of dough :) this is your spot. Share a pizza and a salad with your mate for $16 or so. It won't change your life, but it's a very sincere and yummy meal and you won't hate yourself in the morning. Nice patio in the warmer months, and a sweet wood burning pizza oven inside for cozy winter nights.

this place has been here for a very long time..it fluctuates..I never know what to expect..I love the salads..the pizza isn't my favorite..however, its a nice location..

We are visiting from out of town and staying downtown and in walking distance from this jewel of a find. We had small pizza's with a side salad and a soda for $10.50 each. The crust was perfect and I had the eggplant and artichoke and would highly recommend. The people that work there are super friendly and stop by to visit at the table. We recommend this place for sure

This place is some of the BEST pizza I have ever had... and I live in Chicago, so that's saying something! You walk in, pick what you want off the menu on the wall, tell the incredibly nice person behind the counter, pay, they give you a number, you choose your seat, and from there it's just like full service dining. (They serve you, refill drinks, bring a dessert meny to the table, etc.) The interior is classic "wood-oven pizza place" -- brick walls, cushy seats, the smell of parmesean cheese and pizza in the air. But they also have an outside covered patio and an un-covered patio area that are awesome on a beautiful day! Of the 4 items we had at our table (#10 pesto pizza, meat calzone, Italian wedding soup + salad, and the pizza special of the day - "Bella"), there was not an item that everyone didn't love! The pizza toppings were fresh and the crust was crispy yet soft and just so delicious. The salad was incredibly fresh and super tasty, too! They have parking behind the restaurant which is a bonus, but if you forget, there's a $4 flate rate garage up the street. Best part? Less than $40 to fill 4 adults to the brim. (About $9/pizza serving 1.) Definitely give this place a try!

Try the beer made at their brewery in Albuquerque. Pepperoni pizza was great and a great value. Sit outside if you can.

IL Vicino has a great location on San Francisco just a short walk west from the Lensic Theater. The atmosphere was warm and the building is very nice-it occupies part of a former hacienda which has retained much of the original character. There is a nice courtyard shared with several other restaurants. We came at a busy time and the servers were falling over themselves to keep all the patrons happy. Our pizza's were very good and we enjoyed the outdoor seating. Thanks to the server that overheard us talking about being dizzy and pointed out that we were at about 7500 ft. Suddenly dizzy didn't seem anything to worry about. Free parking for the restaurant around back.

Arrived late in the evening and planned to just have a beer. As the beer arrived, we noticed a really good-looking salad headed to another customer and our stomachs started rumbling. Our beer server was really helpful and even though you normally order at the counter, got us squared away on a small Margarita pizza and spinach salad. The food arrived in just few minutes. The crust, sauce & basil were very good. It was a bit cheesy for me (but ,I'm sure most people like it that way.) I'll order a custom version next time. The spinach salad was fresh & tasty with a respectable dressing, which was not too heavy. A very good quick meal. Oh, and the house-made Il Vicino brown ale was outstanding too. We'd go back anytime.

Consistently good food and pleasant wait staff, except for the older man at the register. Don't ask for cheese bread, said guy at the register doesn't like that and won't offer any help just a rude look. Instead ask the server for bread and parmesan cheese once your seated. Why you can't order it and pay for it I have no idea, but this way it is free.

Should probably go 2.5. Was the pizza made in a brick oven? I'm guessing it was. But my question is where did the dough come from? It just seemed too symmetrical (too round that is) and made me wonder if it was really made on the premises. And more disturbingly it was just too bready. Would hope for a crunchier texture on something like this and looking at the bottom of the pizza where we would expect to see a nice brown from that oven it was still quite pale. Undercooked? Or oven not up to "surface of the sun" temperatures. Pizza flavor....OK. But we all know that dough be the base. Not even sure what else we had (some sort of salad??) but it was OK. Nice place, nice atmosphere. Initial ordering at the front cashier before being seated is a bit different but not a problem. It's a close call....but that dough was just off by a couple notches.

Awesome! Great! Yum! This has got to be the best wood oven fired thin crust pizza I have ever had. I had the Salsiccia pizza (i.e. marinara sauce, mozzarella, pepperoni, sausage, tomatoes, and fresh oregano) and it was amazing! Pizza was 10 inches with 6 great slices all for a mere $7.75 as of March 2010. The crust was perfect and all the ingredients were so fresh. The restaurant has a very chic decor and looks more expensive than it really is. The staff was friendly and helpful. What more can one ask for in a restaurant? Good prices, great service. Highly recommended!

The pizzas are great, I love the spicey oil on the table too, but be sure it's fresh. I heard a story of a friend who ate here and had an old batch of it which made them really sick.

We stopped in for a pizza dinner on a Saturday night. We had been eating heavy and spicy so we were in the mood for a light meal, thin crust pizza. This restaurant was highly rated by Yelpers so we decided to give it a try. We were not disappointed. The order and pay before you sit is a bit inconvenient if you're not familiar with the menu. But the food was quite good. I got a pizza with chicken, sun dried tomatoes, basil, and some other stuff. The crust was wonderful but it needed some sauce or something because it was rather dry. The wife got a pizza with chicken, portabello mushrooms, and some kind of sauce like BBQ sauce or something. It was excellent. We enjoyed it a lot and left not so full or weighted down. Would return if we are are in Santa Fe again.

This little has a big personality. Not just for the locals. The people who work at Il Vicino are warm and friendly. They make their own beer and it is AMAZING! After we had dinner we bought a jug of beer to take home. Then next day we came to refill that jug and get some for home. The pizza was scrumptious. All made in old brick ovens and with fresh toppings.

I found this restaurant by using Yelp, and I am glad I did. Very good food, in a casual atmosphere. You order when you walk inside, and then a server takes your food and drinks to your table. They offer a wide variety of pizzas fired in a wood burning oven, as well as paninis, pastas, and salads. It was a nice, clean environment as well. I would definitely come back.

The food is OK but certainly not anything memorable. We tried three different pizzas and a chicken-pesto panini sandwich and I can't say that I would tell someone to seek out this place. Worse still is an intransigent manager who fails to understand that what New Mexico may require of it drivers and their licenses is not the law in every state. I visited with my family on vacation and ordered a bottle of wine to share with the five of us. All was fine but for for our 22 year old daughter with a California drivers license valid for three more years. Because it was a "vertical" license he refused to serve her. Apparently in New Mexico you must obtain a "horizontal" license within 30 days after your 21st birthday. We checked with a police officer and found that there is no problem with our daughter drinking legally in New Mexico but a restaurant has the right to refuse service to anyone. That may be and he certainly doesn't have to worry about refusing to serve us again. We will not be back. Any other potential dinner with a "vertical" license who may want a glass of wine with her or his dinner would do well to take their business elsewhere. Of course anyone looking for a good meal would go elsewhere as well.

I have to disagree with the other posters. I didn't think the pizza I had was all that great, but that's my personal taste. I thought it was bland and tasteless. I got the #4, which had chicken, sundried tomatoes and a coujple other things which I can't remember. It sounded good but I was thoroughly disappointed. I asked for a refill of diet coke and I got an iced tea. I'm here on vacation and my friend's family took my husband and me there. The place itself is cute and nice atmosphere, but I wouldn't go back.

FANTASTIC food/service/ambiance! Hubby and I were visiting from out of town and wanted something tasty and not frou-frou - This place totally hit the spot. I ordered the daily combo (personal-size pizza with small salad and soda) with the daily special pizza (4-cheese with caramelized onions and rosemary) with a glass of wine; hubby had a small pepperoni with anchovies - Total was around $25 = AWESOME! Finding a place to dine for under $40 for the two of us in downtown Santa Fe was a bit of a challenge, so the prices and portions here were a very pleasant surprise. The house salad was fresh and made with a super-yummy house dressing; and even though my pizza was the "personal" size, I still wasn't able to finish it all - which was a shame, as it was DELICIOUS! Hubby thoroughly enjoyed his pizza and the homemade root beer. Great vegetarian selection, great carnivore selection, plus the place has al fresco dining for those beautiful Santa Fe evenings - HIGHLY recommend!

This has been the best restaurant we've visited in Santa Fe so far. The pizza was excellent (hand tossed crust and fresh ingredients) and the staff was very attentive. Highly recommend as a lunch spot if you're downtown near the Plaza.

Conan, what is best in life? To eat a 10" pizza and drink a pint of any of 5 micro-brewed beer for a total price of $5. (I think in recent years they raised the price to $6 but whatever). The pizza is really good and for additional cost you can add any or many of an array of typical to unique toppings. My favorite is sliced tomatoes and green chile. When they are doing their Pizza and Beer special from 3-6pm and again from 9pm-close you can get your pizza margherita and beer for a really cheap price regardless how much they have raised it in recent years. The Slow Down brown is a good smooth ale or if you want a lighter brew the Pig Tail Ale is another good choice. Also, if you aren't a big beer person, you can opt for the home-brewed root beer they make. Best root beer. There is a nice and large side patio that is covered and parking will be validated for the little lot assuming you are able to find a spot in that itty bitty lot. Sometimes can get busy in the later hours, but not a long wait time ever in my experience.

We ordered take out pizza here and it was excellent. Good crust from wood fired ovens! Lots of interesting choices and they were pretty speedy in getting our order out. I thin it took about 15 minutes from our phone call to when we picked the pies up---we are staying just down the road, so it was a good location for us.

Pretty good, if you're from a place that has actual pizza it will not blow your mind, but it was tasty. We kept it basic with margherita pizza and spinach salad and were not disappointed. And YAY, they're open till 11!

This place was on a little handwritten list I made myself (in absence of a printer) that highlighted restaurants that sounded worth trying. I ended up coming here for my birthday lunch, and perhaps the standards were set too high by how amazing I thought my breakfast (and later, my dinner) was, but I was not impressed with this place. It started when I tried to order a beer, and it turned into a debate between two staff members on whether they were out of it - ultimately settled by one going to the tap and finding out that they were, indeed, out of it. I was recommended an alternative, but it wasn't much like the original I tried ordering, so I ended up with a booze-free lunch. I had a lot of trouble picking what I wanted off of the menu because it was as if every pizza had three ingredients I wanted and one I despised. I ultimately picked one that involved goat cheese, which I love in uncooked form, but quickly learned that I didn't so much enjoy goat cheese cooked. (Or at least not Il Vicino's goat cheese.) Service was painfully slow for the fact that I was there for a very early lunch and the place was nearly empty. And the atmosphere was pretty bland, despite a cute entryway and being so near the buzz and character of the plaza. I wish I was as impressed as all you wonderful Yelpers, but my whole time there I was wishing I was eating somewhere else. I would not return to Il Vicino.

Great food, great beer, great service all because of their super efficient order handling system. Give your order to the guy when you come in, and they are cooking it in the kitchen by the time you are sitting at your table. YUMMY, and HOT, and FAST. Their Il Vicino home brewed beers are great too.

We were looking for pizza in Santa Fe, and there are quite a few choices. Il vecino stood out for two reasons....the line of locals was out the door (but it moves fast) and they brew their own beer. C'mon, now - that's awesome. The pizza was fantastic and the salads are perfect to split for two. Total bill with a couple microbrews, a pizza and a salad was only $25- less than I spent for an entree down the street at a fancy Mexican place.

The people who have poopooed Il Vicino in my presence not only get a stern talking to/smacked bottom, they tend to do so because they think that all pizza should conform to New York pizza. Check out the name: not English. It means: the Vicino, which is Italian for "NOT FROM NEW YORK." The Post family may or may not still be at the helm of either this location or the company at large. They have either moved on and placed it in exceptionally good hands or they are still workhorsing to make it what it is today, because the quality as I have experienced it has not wavered once in over 15 years. The lots next door -- Thai place, Italian place, Japanese place, New Mexican place, high society place, cutesy dinner date place -- all failures. Il Vicino has watched them roll in and out like a slow motion revolving door, that is if it were ever able to catch a glimpse through the crowds of happy eaters and drinkers and never-ending lines of hungry, thirsty, jealousy-eyed people lined up out *their* door. As a microbrewery unto itself (and a damned good one at that) Il Vicino is single-handedly responsible for first cultivating in me a love of draft root beer, from which I would eventually graduate into stiffer beverages, but only in addition to, not in place of, the original. Now I simply cannot help but order a pint of each at every visit. The renown is best bestowed upon each of this business's endeavors: food and beverage alike. My staple pizza, the Quattro Stagioni, has long since been phased out of the menu. Fortunately, there are a great many alternatives to choose from. Start margherita if you're eager to appraise every nuance of the pizza in its purest form. Every single one is good. Though I've never personally gone the calzone route, I know of no unsatisfied customer who has. Enjoy bread before you eat with chile oil, bebop & good ambiance, outdoor seating and guaranteed sightings of your friends/family/former teachers if you live(d) in SF. They all eat here.

Cute little place with a great patio, but the food was iffy when a buddy and I went for lunch. First, the good-the chicken caesar was a generous portion with more than a few anchovy filets on top. Perfect, so those that don't care for them can leave them out and those that like them can add all they want. The croutons were almost like little bread shavings and a nice twist. The pizze rustica left a little to be desired. Wood fired brick pizza ovens should not produce New York style pizza where you can fold it to eat. It should yield a very crispy crust, unfortunately not at Il Vicino. I've eaten pizza in Italy, it's very basic compared to American pizza yet I still have to call Il Vicino's very blah.

We visited this place based on the reviews and were very impressed by the food. We sat outside on the patio, had some wine and Pellegrino. The two of us shared a pizza and a fold over pannini sandwich. Both were very tasty. The dough on both the pannini and pizza were crunchy and flaky. My mother is even going back to purchase some of their dough to take home!

Pizza in Santa Fe! This was excellent brick oven pizza. Great taste. The salad was great and the house made root beer was out of this world. And to top it all off, it was a veritable bargain.

Il Vicino is not your typical tourist restaurant in a city with extreme choices from fine dining to little local simple restaurants. You order at the counter and the food is delivered to your table by a very friendly and efficient staff. There is a huge variety of wood fired pizzas, pasta dishes, sandwiches and salads. Prices are amazingly low for the quality provided. The very best deal is the combo consisting of a small pizza, 1/2 entre salad and soft drink for $10. My dinner partner and I ordered 2 different combos so we could sample more of the menu. The wine list is extensive and fairly priced. Try it for a casual dinner or lunch.

I dined here for the pizza while on a business trip. While travelling for work I pretty much exclusively stick to places I'll earn points/miles on my expense account (United Mileage Plus miles through RewardsNetwork Dining drove me here). Usually, these places are more marketing and less culinary substance (but since I'm dining alone, on the road, working on my laptop while I eat, I rarely care as long as the food is average or better). But I was pleasantly surprised here, especially as they're a chain (another item I usually find devalues the culinary experience). The pizza was extremely well prepared. I had the Campagnola (thin crust pizza with sausage, marinated mushrooms, moz, goat cheest) and an IPA. The dough was flavorful and had a great texture, not at all greasy. The cheeses were fresh and the sauce was flavorful but not overpowering. It was a good concert. The beer was good, I like my IPAs a bit hoppier, but this was a good specimen. At this price point, this quality of food nets 5 stars from me. Of course, pizza (and the beer) gets higher-end and I have had better, but this was *really* good - and at this price point and convenience factor (order at the counter, they bring it out to you), I'd have a hard time beating it. The beer isn't locally brewed...there certainly was no brewery on site. They're a chain, so they must just ship kegs in from a central location. UPDATE: I went again the day after (not only because of my compunction to earn miles whenever possible, but I was in the neighborhood) and had a piadine. The Hero had salami, coppacola, sundried tomato mayo, peppers, and romaine. It was great. The flatbread was similar to a pizza crust but softer and cooked so it wasn't crispy, although it had crisped parmesan on the outside. Really liked it. Again, great value. The formula of good price, good taste, good ingredients worked again. It was big enough for Lunch and an afternoon pre-workout snack, and I eat a lot.

First time I ate at Il Vicino, it became one of my favorites. Conveniently located downtown, I enjoy stopping in for lunch or dinner. Relaxing atmosphere, most often they have some nice jazz music playing in the background. They have some of the best tasting wood oven pizza in town. I also often enjoy their chicken panini sandwiches with one of their house salads. They also have a very nice assortment of micro brews, which go perfect with their pizzas. The staff is friendly, and service is almost always quick even during the lunch rush hour. My favorite beer there right now is the Slow Down Brown, try it with a pizza, you wont be disappointed!

First time here, heard the local hype. It's good, service and people were very engaging and attentive. For a wood fire pie, it could have been cooked more to crisp our up, but great flavor with fresh ingredients. I'll be back...and ask them to leave it in oven more

Pretty good but not great wood fired pizza and pasta and some good salads and soups, reasonable prices considering it is just a short walk from the plaza (i.e. in an expensive area full of tourist traps and/or restaurants with the Paris educated chefs biography posted out front ...) They serve beer from their own brewery (this is a small Albuquerque based chain) on tap, it is decent. They also have wine. One orders at the front counter upon entering, then the food is brought to ones table and one can order more drinks or whatever from the waitress/waiter. I ate here a few times during my 4 years in Santa Fe (2006-2010), found service to be good. Small outdoor patio is a nice option when it is not cold (winter lasts like 6 months in Santa Fe, an aspect I don't miss about the town).. I feel there is generally much better pizza (and other Italian dishes) at Pizzeria de Lino , about a block away, but that place also costs a little more, being a bit more formal with table service as opposed to the arrangement here where one orders at the front counter. So this is a good relatively low cost option.

Service was fast and efficient. Love that you order and pay as you enter. Meant that when our 16 month old was ready to go we could just leave rather than waiting for a check. Oh, and the pizza was great, too. I did find the dough sweet but worked very well with the type of pizza we ordered.

Disappointment when we returned here this year. I ordered the Margherita pizza (tomato, fresh basil, mozzarella cheese). It turned out to be no more than an ordinary cheese pizza with a few very small shavings of basil leaves. Did not wish to eat it, so ordered a different pizza. The second pizza (veggie) was better but not great. Our other pizza, the Testarossa, was fair. However, spinach salad was sensational as was the flourless chocolate ganache cake on walnut crust. Since this experience, we have had great pizza at Rooftop Pizzeria (at Marble Brewery on their rooftop balcony). Won't return to Il Vicino.

Thin crust specialty pizzas and a few salads and sandwiches that I regularly order to go when I'm working makes this one of my absolute food options available in the downtown area. My favorite is the "Hiro" sandwich which is loaded with a variety of meat and vegetables, and half a serving will keep me going all day. The staff is competant and friendly and in a situation where they mess up an order (Hey, it's the restaurant biz, it happens), you just may get a replacement meal and a coupon for your next meal for free! Indoor and outdoor seating all year too with beer on tap and some verey excellent iced tea too boot!

This is my favorite restaurant in Santa Fe! I love the home-brewed beer and root beer and the authentic wood oven pizza. They make it with quality ingredients and have a fantastic menu selection. In response to reviews like Mimi's, you do have to know what style pizza it is. It's not American-style, it's more like old-world Italian. The sauce is not supposed to be sweet and salty and make up half the volume of the pizza, and actually half their pizzas aren't made with marinara sauce, but with garlic oil or other delicious oils or pestos. It's small portions too, not American size. The salads are also delicious. Excellent service, too! The wait to order can be a little long at peak hours because you order at the counter and take a number. To-go orders are filled very quick and they let you cut in line when it's long if you're just picking up to-go.

Ugh, I can hear #20 calling my name as I type this...I lived in Santa Fe for a while, and let me assure you that this is my most missed restaurant from there (you would think it would be a New Mexican, restaurant right? I'm tricky like that). While they have several different delicious sounding pizzas, I can only attest to the deliciousness of their Margherita and the #4 (yes I memorized the numbers on the menu), and of course, the most awesome panini ever to grace my mouth, the #20. I do believe they make a mean penne alfredo as well. Oh, also, make sure to taste some of that spicy oil that awaits you on the table. Insanely addicting.

Fabulous thin crust pizza. This is a busy, busy, busy shop, so if you're in a hurry, get it to go. I can't tell you how many wood oven pizzas I've had with burned, ash covered undersides. This was perfect. Clean and crisp, without being cardboard. Very tasty pie. Great cheese and great toppings. My Husband likes his pizza pretty wild, I like it mild. I had the margerita and it was excellent. I looked up and my Husband had inhaled his, so I guess he liked it. :) The staff was pretty distracted the night I was there. But we got what we ordered, delivered to the table hot, so I can't complain too much. Oh, and the root beer on tap is pretty good too. I'd go again tomorrow if I were in town.

A solid little pizza joint. Quick, inexpensive, nice atmosphere, beer on tap - what more could you ask for in a fast but still excellent wood oven pizza place.

Great pizza! Different options from your "regular" pizza place, we love the Pizza al Pesto, Salsicca, Rustica, Melanzane, and Testarossa are all just great. Not greasy, with a great crust, with fresh and tasty toppings. Their salads are all great, too. Be careful of sizing when ordering takeout, get a description of the sizes, they tend to be on the smaller size and one pie won't feed as many people as a typical pie might. That said, they have a wonderful punchcard system where you buy twelve regular sized pies and get the thirteenth free. I do have a problem with their takeout service, they always underestimate the time by at least ten minutes and are pretty bad about processing takeout orders since they always have a line at the counter for people waiting to eat in (they even have a separate register next to the eat-in register, but just keep on processing the people in line rather than hopping over to ring up the takeout order, even if the food isn't ready they should just so that the takeout person can leave as soon as the food is ready, instead of also having to wait even longer to get rung up and leave, REALLY going over their initial time estimate). You really get ignored in the takeout line. The food though, IS really good, they just need to work on more adequate customer service!

Il Vicino created a perfect restaurant atmosphere without ditching that all important time factor. Who wouldn't love to sit around eating wonderful saucy food and drinking wine for hours? On the other hand, sometimes you don't have the time, but you still have the desire for the food. I recommend the chicken pesto sandwich (#17) and a big tall glass of their home brewed root beer. My boyfriend keeps raving about their pizza, which I've never tried, but he claims it is the best single serve pie around. The other great thing about Il Vicino is that it is beyond inexpensive. It isn't cheap, but it is a great place for a first date. Everything on the menu costs about the same (around $8-10) and you order up front which eliminates all the guess work. It is hard to find the first couple of times, but once you get into the semi-private parking lot and are walking around the beautiful garden out front after dinner, I guarantee you'll be pleased with this diamond in the rough.

We make a point of going here every trip to Santa Fe. The pizza is always good and we love the location and atmosphere as it's cozy and comfortable. If you go, be sure to try their house root beer. If you ask they will sell you a growler to go!

I had been by this chain in my home town but never stopped. I was told to try this for a great pizza, and it was very good. I would have enjoyed a crisper crust, overall it was a winner.

I hate writing this because I've been really happy with meals here in the past, but today's lunch was really disappointing. The person that took my order packaged it to go even though I said I was eating there. When they told me my order was ready to go, I told them I was eating there - that was after a 20-minute wait. They apologized but the pizza came out halfway cooked. Right now, I'm a very disappointed customer. I don't know if I'll give this place another chance.

After a long day of traveling I found myself in downtown Santa Fe. I was looking for a place to recharge my phone and unwind when I stumbled upon this place. They have a really good selection of craft beers on tap so I went with those. The menu looked promising but I had dinner plans elsewhere. Also please note this this is a order at the register, you are assigned a number, and food is delivered to your table type of place. The plastic style plates are a tinge better than paper ones. At least the beer glasses seemed clean.

Pleasant surprise as I have never heard of this regional chain before. Stopped for a quick lunch on our drive between Taos and Albuquerque. The wheat beer was pretty good- yeasty but crisp. Actually better than the wheat at Tas brewing . I ordered the pizza with the artichoke, red pepper and chicken and balsamic vinegar. The flavors were well blended together, you could taste the mix of cheeses with a occasional burst of the vinegar. The crust was bubbly and crunchy. I would definitely stop again and if they were in Illinois, I would eat here regularly.

I am not sure why this place has such high ratings, but I didn't realize it was a chain until after we ate there. It seems like this place is trying to be a higher-end/upscale chain, but you have to order at the counter. It is super awkward. The pizza came out quickly and was very generic... bland... crust tasted frozen maybe? The wine was a joke. The guy at the front counter seemed EXTREMELY bored and wasn't rude exactly, but just not friendly or welcoming either. I would not recommend or go back to this place.

Wish we would have found this place the very first night we landed in Santa Fe. An upscale, cozy feel, but not pretentious. You order upon walking in and then go and grab your seat. Fairly efficient and then the servers are prompt during the meal as they wait your table. (The pizza is delivered to your table). Margherita and pepperoni pizzas were both very good. Caesar salads were crisp and fresh. We would go here again.

Pros and Cons Pros 1. Good Pasta, bread, and chicken 2. Nice décor 3. Friendly Service 4. Affordable Lunch Prices Cons 1. Dinner Prices are more expensive I came here on my visit to Santa Fe, NM and really enjoyed their food. The Rosemary Chicken was very tender and tasty. I also enjoyed the free garlic bread. The décor was very nice and the staff was friendly. I suggest coming for lunch because the lunch prices are a lot cheaper than dinner.

Nice casual dining place. Order your food as you come in and they will bring to your table. Great for kids, especially if you want a break from the Mexican food in town. Kids can order their own 6" pizzas, which is on a thin crispy crust. My husband had the minestrone soup and it was one of the best that we have had. I thought the spicy shrimp pizza could have been spicier but it was good. Salads are tasty and have the right amount of dressing. Root beer was the best!! After reading other reviews I now know that it is homemade. A must try!

You must pay before being seated. Extremely poorly conceived. Even more poorly executed. We stood in line for 15 minutes -- right behind 5 separate transactions for a single table -- without any communication. When we finally reached the register, we were told that there weren't any tables for 3 available, so they'd call us in 10 minutes to take our order. I could understand prepaying to get the order started sooner. Both the guests and restaurant would benefit from less pre-eating time at the table. But this is ridiculous. (Also, takeout orders share the same line, which means tables may actually be open while takeout orders are being placed.) Update #1: We've been at our table for 5 minutes and my prepaid beer hasn't arrived, nor water for the rest of my family. Update #2: Beer came a moment later, then salad and pizzas arrived pretty quickly. The pescatore salad is above average, as were both the maguerita and testatore pizzas. Update #3: Gee, these guys make it hard to dislike this place. At least 4 different people have breezed by, checking quickly and very nicely if our food is ok and hoping we're having a good evening. (they can't see me Yelping, can they?) Food: 4 Serving staff: 5 Check-in / order /payment process (and the one guy handling it): 0

Mediocre dry chicken pizza. Reasonable salad, missing some touches though such as untoasted pine nuts. Looks mostly suited to younger people in search of a cheaper alternative to a wine bar, felt more like a wine cafeteria.

I ordered a salsiccia and my husband a campagnola. I liked mine fine though it wouldn't land on a list of favorites; my husband did not like his at all. Despite loving mushrooms, he thought they overpowered his pizza so much he could taste naught else. Also, they never refilled my husband's drink, though mine was refilled once. Prices are about ten bucks per individually sized pizza, which is a little higher than I am used to but would not mind if they were excellent. As it stands, I would have rated them 3.5 for my meal and my husband wouldn't give more than a 2. We vastly preferred Back Road pizza despite it being a less traditional pie.

I was looking forward to the beer, since we had tried some in ABQ. But the food blew us away. We split the spinach salad with feta, pine nuts, roasted red peppers, red onion; the ingredients were perfectly balanced and fresh. It came with a sliver of bread that I could have eaten a whole loaf; it was that good. We got the pesto dressing on the side since I don't like dressing on my salad. I made the mistake of dipping a piece of my bread in the little bowl of dressing. It was the best tasting dressing! We got more bread to mop it up. We asked for the salad first and there was a nice pause between that and the calzone coming out. It impressed me that with the mass of people and ordering at the bar that they could pull the timing off. We split the calzone too. It was stuffed with fresh vegetables; there wasn't a whole lot of cheese on the inside to mask the veggies. Don't get me wrong; I LOVE cheese but sometimes it can be overdone. This was not overdone. They shred additional cheese on it, if you want. There was a side of tomato sauce that I didn't even consider using since it was so good as is. Oh, almost forgot the beer...IPA was excellent; lots of hops the way we like it. I got the wheat. I was disappointed; it tasted like water with lemon in it, flat. Weird part is that it had a creamy head. We mixed the IPA in it and both of us were happy.

This place is in the top 2 favorite places we ate on vacation and we just happened by it on the way to the Festival. We told our server guy that we just kinda needed a snack cause we were having dinner in a few hours and he recommended we share a small pizza and a salad. We got to choose from an impressive list of salad and pizza combos and decided on a spinach salad with gorgonzola, roasted red peppers, pine nuts, red onions and a perfect pesto dressing that wasn't too overpowering or heavy. And for the pizza we got the Bianca. capocollo ham, spicy oil, mozzarella, goat cheese, gorgonzola, portobello mushrooms, caramelized onions, tomatoes and fresh rosemary. just the perfect thickness of crust... fresh cracked pepper and freshly grated parm. Yep. AND.... they have delicious beer. Great find.

Il Vicino's is a wonderful surprise! If you had the opportunity to travel over the last few years, you might have noticed the growth of gourmet, mostly "wood oven" pizza places. Chicago has the various Sopratfinas, Phoenix has Pizza Bianco, there are a bunch in NY & LA. I would also include Neapolitan Cafe Zoetrope of SF in the group, even though they are a full menu Italian eater. In fact Il Vicino's itself has opened restaurants in other NM cities, as well as in Colorado and Kansas. Kansas? The gourmet pizza cafes, are not the toss it in the air Italian pizzerias with subway tiles. Instead, they have a very rustic feel to them, with a lot of dark wood. You can look at the photo that Dave Y posted, to get a feel of the place: yelp.com/biz_photos/lf-U… So, while we came here seeking a change from the southwest's, red & green Christmas tree chile environment, which is Santa Fe. We were surprised to find the local place, Il Vicino's doing the exact same thing found in other upscale pizza places -- turning out some great pizza, with some panache. Il Vicino's makes their pizzas made to order, with fresh ingredients, in a wood fired oven. And like most, Il Vicino's has seating which allows you an up close opportunity to watch as they prepare and make your pizza. Il Vicino's has a cafe atmosphere which we enjoyed. The pizza was great, as are the salads. We paid $32.52, including taxes and tip, which we thought was very fair. Enjoy!

We had NO idea this was a chain! And that says a LOT. We sampled their Pizza, Caesar Salad, and Sandwiches, and not one of us was unimpressed with our meal. There was some finger licking, too! Once you place your order at the counter in the entryway, you find your way to a table of your choosing. The patio area with working fountain made for nice atmosphere, and there are plenty of indoor tables, too. The brick walls add to the rustic feel of the restaurant. We enjoyed the ambience. But enough about the looks: Here's the Food! The Panini was nicely proportioned with fillings and bread, and accented with the spicy oil adorning our table. The Caesar salad, which I topped with "Roasted" chicken and Salami, was surprisingly good. The chicken I could have skipped, being of the "cold, diced" variety rather than the "pulled, roasted" variety, but the Salami was a clear winner, salty and garlicky and not at all greasy. The dressing was light, and that spicy oil added a welcome kick to it. The salad was topped with toasted parmesan thin slice croutons, mozzarella, and, oh yeah, Anchovies!! Fresh, salty, not at all fishy, and decadent! Winner, Winner! Lastly their Pizza: Wood Fired, apparently. We ordered the Margherita Pizza, (Tomato, Mozzarella and Fresh Basil) and added Anchovies and Calamata Olives. Holy. Wow. Those Anchovies are FANTASTIC. Not oily at all, fresh, salty little bursts of flavor, adding that umph to a basic Margherita. It's a beautiful thing. The crust had the right amount of chewy and crisp, and the flavors balanced wonderfully. The Pizza was the clear winner on a table full of good entrees. We had a great lunch and will definitely be back when we find ourselves wandering The Plaza.

This was our third pizza place to visit while in Santa Fe, and turned out to be our least favorite. We had a house salad that was pretty good and tasted fresh. Then we had the Calzone which probably would have tasted better if it was warm/hot. Not sure why but it was a bit on the cold side once served to our table. It wasn't bad but Pizzeria Da Lino was our favorite and Upper Crust Pizza was better than this place.

After days of eating green chili we needed some other type of food so decided to try this place after reading the reviews. I must say it was really good. The services was nice but it is the type of place you order and pay before your sit down which seems odd to me but we ran into a few places like that down here in Santa Fe. The salad was really fresh and we went at around 9:30 at night which says they care about their food even close to closing time and the pizza had a great crust which hit the spot:) they stay open until a 11 which is good because most places are closed at that time.

Not the cheapest place to eat, but a pretty good value nonetheless. They've got a lunch special that's a small pizza, side salad, and a soda for like $10. Not bad, considering the proximity to the plaza. Also, it should be noted that their food is pretty durned good. For the gluten-sensitive, they have gluten-free dough available. Decent selection of wine and beers on tap. Friendly service. It's not a traditional waiter-type place; you place your order at the counter, find a table, and they bring your order out to you. Actually pretty convenient in a lunch scenario. They have a pretty sweet little patio you can enjoy, very Santa Fe.

I was looking for a break from the New Mexican red and green chile and found Il Vicino. From its micro-brewed ales to its wood-fired pizzas, I was very impressed. Il Vicino is a quick service restaurant where you order at the bar as you walk in. The customer service there could have been a bit friendlier, but everything was explained well and I was on my way in short order. My drink, appetizer and entree arrived with a smile. To drink, I chose the Wet Mountain IPA, an appropriate name since the weather this winter was so warm. It was a bit less bitter and darker than a usual IPA, but had a crisp flavor. It paired well with the small house salad I ordered - lightly dressed with a hint of garlic and citrus. The slice of focaccia was a nice touch. For the entree, I chose the Molta Carne pizza. Well, it was very satisfying. Pepperoni, sausage, and ham, yum! They bring a cheese grater to the table with some awesome Parmesan - very fresh and flavorful! Try it, you'll like it!!

Chain alert. This is no Pizzeria Lola (Minneapolis) or Speedy Romeo (Brooklyn). It is wood-oven, thin crust pizza; competently prepared with good ingredients in a fair setting. Me and the daughter spent $29 for two pizzas and a salad. Ordering is at the counter, and the food is brought to your table. The service was quite good. For Santa Fe visitors and locals, this is solid, low-risk, mid-priced dining. It's not reflective of the place, but that's not always what you want. BONUS: Great in-town location. BONUS: convenient parking!

Don't be discouraged by a seemingly long line or lack of hostess to seat you. The food is some of the best Italian style fare my husband and I have had since leaving NJ 10 years ago. Excellent salads, pizzas, pastas, and calzones. If I had not over done it on my Alfredo penne pasta, I would have definitely hit up the cannolies They also have their own beers and wines. I wanted to try their Cabarnet but they were sold out. My husband really liked the brown ale and took a growler to go. I would have preferred waiter service but the food is so good that I didn't mind.

My wife ordered a regular calzone, I had a vegetarian calzone, and the kids had a pepperoni pizza. Service was super quick, and everything had a good flavor. Will definitely come back.

We loved this place!! They have gluten free dough (extra$) a fun atmosphere, no TV (yeah) and super friendly and fast staff. Panini were delicious, huge salads, great pizza.

We were looking for a late night bite in Santa Fe and stumbled upon this gem downtown! The place was very busy which is also a good sign! We got a salad, a couple pizzas, and the home brewed root beer! It was all top notch and amazing! I would definitely recommend this to anyone In the downtown Santa Fe area!

The portion sizes are huge! My husband got the calzone and I got the Hero sandwich. The hero sandwich was very tasty and light compared to the calzone. The calzone was very rich in flavor. I thought this was a sit down restaurant (we are from El Paso) and stood in a line that went out the door. We waited less than 10 minutes and the cashier was very knowledgeable about all the entrees offered. They also have a good selection of wine and beers. There is an outdoor patio with an inviting ambiance of lights and planters boxes full of flowers and tomatoes. This restaurant is also walking distance to the hotel we are staying at. Our food came out quickly and we were able to order more drinks from our table as well. Great place for travelers!

Tiring of the tourista foodie ghetto in downtown Santa Fe last week, we gave Il Vicino a try. Slightly off the beaten path on an exterior road in Old Town, we found it to be surprisingly good, hip, and a VERY good value. Abbe & I split very good Vicino salad, and then a tasty 6 slice pesto pizza, and washed it down with glass of California Gnarly Zinfandel. Bill came to $31.92 for what Abbe described as the "perfect amount of food." It was the cheapest meal we ate during our 4 days in Santa Fe, and one of the best. Though you have to order and pay first, our guy behind the counter proved to be efficient, knowledgeable, and ironic. If I could give 4.5 stars, I would.

This is a casual but great place to eat. If you're looking for pizza, lasagna, or an Italian dish they have it. You order at the counter and then find yourself an open table. They take care of the rest. We ordered pizza and a salad with the house Cabernet for wine. It was served hot, the salad VERY fresh and for a $5.00 house cab ... excellent. Service was great and everyone was pleasant and made us feel very welcome. We will go back! We pass through Sante Fe once a year and this is our kinda place when we don't want or need all the fancy extras.

While visiting with family from out of town, we decided to give this place a try because of the great reviews. It was during lunch hour & we were happy to find that it wasn't too busy & that we'd be able to get our food relatively quickly. It took quite a while for them to make it & when it came out my calzone was burnt! We didn't have time to wait for another so I just ate it. Everyone else's food was average. I just don't understand all the hype.

The fact that you order & pay at the counter seems dissonant considering the quality of the service and food, but I suppose it is efficient. I really enjoyed the lasagna, and the basic salad that I had to start was nothing to sneeze at. Service was very friendly, and prices are very reasonable.

Casual tasty unassuming Italian; mostly pizza, but there are some killer sandwiches and salads (the spinach salad is my favorite) and apparently lasagna for the pasta lovers. The pizza is really tasty wood oven fired with fresh toppings and the marinara they use is quite good. There's spicy olive oil on the table for dipping your crusts and they hand-grind pepper / hand-grate parmesan cheese at the table. Yum! Possibly most notably, they've got their service system down to a science and I've always found the staff helpful, knowledgeable, and attentive. Order at the counter, take a number, sit wherever, they do the rest, including add-on orders which they'll bring you a separate check for, like if you decide to order another beer or a dessert once you've sat down. Keep in mind that the service is very "full-service" except for the initial order, so don't pull that 10% tip crap - the staff clearly pools the tips and they work hard as a team and do a really good job, so tip the appropriate 15-20%. It's not like you're getting your own drink or bussing your tray at a Furr's cafeteria here, people. My fave pizza is the #9: sausage, mushrooms, and goat cheese with mozzarella and marinara. Although, honestly, the pizza margherita is truly delightful, with plenty of fresh basil. The lunch special is hard to beat: a small salad, small (as in individual) pizza, and a non-alcoholic drink of choice for under $10. Pretty sweet.

Friendly service, reliably good pizza, and a comfortable environment that's good for families with kids but still nicer than your average pizza joint. We come once a year when we're in town for a ski vacation and we always look forward to visiting this place!

Yeah, yeah, it's a chain. So what? It's always delicious, and if you like thin crust pizza, it's really very good compared to anywhere you would go for it. The sandwiches are excellent as well, but the Molto Carne pizza is my favorite.

  • David M.

I give it 5 stars because it offers good pizza, good italian food, and excellent beer and it is reasonably priced. The location in the historic area of Sante Fe make it a nice destination for dinner and strolling. Everyone in my family which include three kids enjoy this restaurant.

  • Paul S.

Great pizza- Monte Carne, awesome salad#29, cute area of town in the Plaza. Great find since all the Japanese restaurants were closed on Sunday.

A solid little pizza joint. Quick, inexpensive, nice atmosphere, beer on tap - what more could you ask for in a fast but still excellent wood oven pizza place.

    1. Great wood fired pizza. Love the sauce! 2. Had an excellent IPA on tap - don't recall the name but enjoyed it. 3. Really like paying and ordering up front - we could still order other stuff at the table, wait staff was very attentive - but to have everything finished on the front end was great.

I give it 5 stars because it offers good pizza, good italian food, and excellent beer and it is reasonably priced. The location in the historic area of Sante Fe make it a nice destination for dinner and strolling. Everyone in my family which include three kids enjoy this restaurant.

Pizza

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.

Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.

Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
